Our houses are located in a two block area around Mulumba House. Our Jesuit Residence is located on 43rd & Grant Street in Omaha, NE. Building the houses in a close proximity like provides people with a new home and improves the neighborhood.
After qualifying for federal grants through the Omaha Planning Board, our hopeful families are then able to take out a mortgage. Our goal is to have these families own a three bedroom, full basement house for a monthly payment of less than $600.
There are 25 vacant lots in an area four blocks square near our current houses. We have a dream of filling each lot with a new house.
The federal grant and the home owner loan do not cover the cost of each house and we are depending on people like you to help these families.
We have finished the construction of two houses and completed the sale in December 2004. We will finish two more houses and sell them by the end of 2006. Our plan is to start the construction of three more houses this spring.
Our housing development is focused on a four square block area of North Omaha that has 25 vacant lots in the midst of other existing houses. We have already built four houses in this neighborhood and our goal is to build three houses next year and increase our production each year until we have built and sold 25 homes.
All houses have been constructed with an innovative concrete system whereby the exterior walls are poured concrete with 5 inches of foam insulation. Research has shown that homeowners can save an average of 44% on heating costs and 32% on cooling costs with this type of construction. One of our homeowners has already seen a significant reduction in this year’s heating bills compared to other comparable houses.
These attractive houses have been designed with three bedrooms, a full basement, attached garage, steep roof lines and a front porch. The exterior walls are stucco or vinyl. These 21st century houses have minimum maintenance and will hold their beauty and value for years to come.
