Our mission is to build and sell energy efficient, concrete houses to first time home buyers in North Omaha. Our home buyers are hard working and have a good credit rating, and live below the 80% median family income guidelines. Our program supports strengthening families through home ownership and stabilizing neighborhoods.
One of our first home buyers wrote, “My prayer for GESU is that God uses your organization to build more than just homes, but also families and communities. That’s what Jesus (Gesu) did!”
Since leaving Creighton Prep Brother Mike has worked with Sudanese Refugees in Northern Uganda, helped found the Jesuit Middle School of Omaha, and continues coaching at North and Roncalli high schools. His work in Africa and the Jesuit Middle School led into another Jesuit ministry—housing for the poor in North Omaha.
“In 2001, I moved to Nebraska to work in affordable housing with Brother Mike Wilmot, a member of the Omaha Creighton Community. I have 33 years of residential construction experience and I am a certified journeyman carpenter. Brother Wilmot and I formed Gesu Housing Inc., a non profit housing developer in North Omaha. We build energy–efficient concrete houses for the working poor. My duties are carpenter, construction manager and developer for Gesu Housing. I enjoy living in Omaha and the community that I have found here.”
